Frequent Asked Questions

What is permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup, semi-permanent makeup and cosmetic tattooing are all the same thing. It involves implanting pigment into the dermal layer of the skin using a digital machine and microneedle. This creates a natural brow, which slowly and evenly fades over time.

What is the difference between this and microblading?

I use and digital machine and microneedle to gently implant the pigment. This allows me to create a soft, airbrushed shading effect or fine hair stroke lines. It is similar to a tattoo, but not as deep. Microblading uses a handheld blade, which slices the skin. Pigment is then rubbed into the cut to create a hair stroke. Using a microneedle is less invasive than microblading, there is less trauma to the skin, it is suitable for all skin types, even oily skin and does not scar. Microblading tends to fade a little quicker and as you have to cut over the previous work each time you have a top up, scar tissue builds up and it’s hard to continue to maintain after a few years.

How long does it last?

Everyone is different and there are various factors which affect how quickly the pigment fades, such as skin type, UV exposure and skincare products. I recommend a top up every 12-18 months to keep your brows looking their best. If left, the pigment will fade and won't be visible at all after about 3 years.

Does it hurt?

Discomfort is minimal due to the use of numbing cream and the procedure is much more gentle than a regular tattoo. Some clients have reported it feeling a little scratchy at first, but nobody has complained that the procedure is painful. I have had clients fall asleep before!

What is the difference between ombre, powder and combination?

Ombré brows- ombré brows have a stronger tail which fade into light, powdery bulb. These brows can be super soft and natural or more defined, depending on what you want. Ombré brows are suitable for any skin type.
Powder brows- powder brows are a fuller looking brow, with little to no fading from tail to bulb. These brows can be kept very light or be more defined. They have a soft, powdery finish and are suitable for any skin type.
Combination brows- combination brows combine the ombré brow with some natural hair strokes which follow the brows natural hair growth. These strokes are achieved using the machine and needle, giving a gorgeous, natural finish. Combination brows are not suitable for anyone with an oily t-zone.

What Our Clients Say

“I was really nervous about getting my brows tattooed. I am not great with pain and was worried I was too old. Rachel was AMAZING! She put me at ease straight away. She was so friendly and professional. I can't explain how much I love my new brows, they are so natural and suit my face and age. And I hardly felt a thing!”
